I like to think of myself as a logical person. At heart, I lean on the side of libertarians. I believe that the government is way too large, has its nose in everybody’s business (which is not it’s job), and is slowly destroying this country with freedom restricting laws, and of course, a crippling national debt. As Trump tries to finalize his tax bill, Democrats are saying it is the worst thing ever based on, well, I’m not sure. One argument has been that it will add about $1.3 Trillion to the national deficit over the course of 10 years. They say that amount of debt will destroy this country. Let’s look at a few facts.
- When Obama took office, the national deficit was $10.6Trillion. When he left office, it was $19.9 Trillion. That is roughly a $9 Trillion increase in 8 years.
- When Trump took office, the national deficit was $19,947,304,555,212.49. As of July 30th, 7 months after Trump took office, the national deficit was $19,844,938,940,351.37. That is a DECREASE of $102,365,614,861.12.
I did not vote for Trump. However, I have never wanted him to fail. Wanting the president to fail is wanting your country to fail, and that is just stupid. I voted for Obama……twice. Sadly, he did not end up being the president I thought he would. I’ll save my Obama complaints for another article. Right now we are talking about the national deficit, which many expert (experts of what, I don’t know, but I agree with them on this one), is the greatest threat to this country right now.
You can say what you want about Trump.
- You can call him a racist for wanting to deport illegal immigrants……..just like Obama did.
- You can say he is dividing the country by not calling out white supremacists (which he did), even though Obama NEVER condemned BLM , even when they were looting and calling for the murder of whites.
- You can say he doesn’t care about the middle class because he is giving corporations a tax decrease (even though he is also giving the middle class a tax break), while Obama told the middle class that they had to buy health insurance, and if they didn’t they would be fined.
What you can’t do (at least not if you look at facts and what has happened so far), is say that he doesn’t know what he is doing financially with this country. The numbers say that he does know, and I believe that terrifies democrats. If Trump succeeds, they will be in big trouble next election cycle, and I believe that they are going to do everything in their power to make sure he fails, even though that means they are hurting the country. Again, that is a topic for another article. Anyways, Obama thought he could fix things by putting restrictions on everything. Trump actually understands the economy. If the government wants to fix the economy, they need to get out of the way!
Now, I do side with Obama when it comes to environmental factors. I think that our dependence on fossil fuels is a huge problem, and that we need to focus on preserving the planet much more than we do. Trump is more concerned with the potential for growth. It is not always about the money, and I hope that he realizes that before too much damage is done.
Overall, Trump is winning when it comes to the national deficit. He promised a lot of winning. I still have my fingers crossed for reciprocity with conceal carry permits, but again, an article for another way. For now, let’s hope Trump keeps delivering on his promises, and let’s hope he can dig us out of this insane amount of debt that Obama left us with.
