Let me start off by stating that I am pro LIFE. I believe that babies should be protected, and the fact that there are so many people that not only dehumanize babies, but are OK with them literally being ripped apart is mind blowing. However, the pro choice movement says that it is about women’s reproductive rights, so I figured we should take a look at men’s reproductive rights.
Why Are People Pro-Choice?
The 2 biggest arguments that I hear people make who support abortion are as follows.
- My body, my choice! My favorite response to that is to ask their thoughts on prostitution and mandatory vaccinations. If you really believe that people should have the right to control their own body, you must be against mandatory vaccines. PLEASE DO NOT try to counter this one by saying that mandatory vaccines are different because they help save lives. You know what else helps save lives? Not ripping babies into pieces, sucking out their brains, and throwing them into garbage cans. You must support prostitution, a man or women having the right to exchange their body for money. After all, my body, my choice. I should point out that I am not saying that I am for or against mandatory vaccines and/or prostitution. I am simply using them as simple examples to show the hypocrisy of “My body, my choice.”
- The women is not ready to be a mother. People say that if the women feels she is not ready (usually mentally or financially), she should not need to raise that child. This one in particular is what sparked this articles.
A woman becomes pregnant. I think everyone can agree that both the man and woman are responsible for this happening. If not, go back to 6th grade health class. Now, the woman decides that she does not want to keep the baby. It is not the right time in her life. She feels that she needs to finish school, work on her career, focus on her, whatever it is. Pro-choice advocates say that the woman can have an abortion. Not only can she have one, but it is her right, and some people even celebrate it. After all, she is simple exercising her reproductive rights, right? The man had no say in the situation. He could want that child. He could be willing to raise the child by himself if need be. If the Democrats get their way, abortion until birth will be every women’s right. That means that a man could have felt his baby kicking, talked to it, sang to it, picked out a name, set up a nursery, done everything except actually met the baby, and the woman could decide to kill the baby. He has no say. His child is dead.
Now, let’s change it to a man. The woman becomes pregnant, again, thanks to both the man and woman. The man decides that he is not ready. He wants to focus on school, his career, himself, whatever. He decides that he does not want the child. What are his options? Where are his reproductive rights? IMPORTANT! Right about here, a pro-choice advocate is probably saying something naive like, “He shouldn’t have gotten her pregnant.” I point out again that it takes two people to get pregnant. Unless the women was raped, both people are equally responsible for the formation of the baby. He can’t force the woman to have an abortion. The mother decides, and if she decides to keep the baby, he is responsible for that baby. Again, I am pro-life, and I believe that being a parent is an amazing gift. However, for the sake of argument, stay with me. At the very least, the man is now committed to 18 years of financial responsibility. If he is a good father, he also has the time commitment of raising a child, which may negatively impact his school, career, etc. If he does not do what he is supposed to, people call him a dead beat. If he does not financially support he child, he can be arrested, and the money can be taken directly from his pay checks. Think about that. A women doesn’t want the child, she has it killed, and the left celebrates her and her choice. If the father does not want the child, sucks to be him. He did not have the option to opt out like the women did. He had no say about whether or not his baby was born.
The woman has complete control over the situation. If she wants the baby, she doesn’t kill it. If she doesn’t want it, she kills it. The father has no say. The life of his child is in the hands of the woman.
This all brings me back to the title of this post. What reproductive rights do men have? The answer is pretty obvious. None! Once the women becomes pregnant, the woman gets to decide what happens to that baby. She literally gets to decide if that baby lives or dies.
I understand that many people will read this and disagree. I am not sure exactly what there is in this post disagree with, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I imagine that the overwhelming response would be that it is the woman who has to carry the child, so she should get to decide. After all, her body, her choice, right? However, I am not talking about carrying the baby. I am talking about the lifelong commitment after the baby is born. A woman can opt out of the commitment by having an abortion. A man has no opt out.
Again, I am pro-life. I believe that being a parent is an amazing gift. I understand that it is not always easy (financially, physically, and mentally), but it is worth every second. I understand that different people are in different situations, and that they may think that a baby is an obstacle to their happiness. I’d argue that raising a child is a path to happiness, not an obstacle to it. I think most parents out there would agree with that.
In the end, the topic of abortion is one that will always be debated. The point of this article was not to convince pro-choicers that abortion is wrong. Honestly, if the thought of ripping a baby limb from limb isn’t something that you view as wrong, nothing I say is going to change your mind. The point of this argument was to point out the hypocrisy of the “Reproductive rights” argument for abortion, because in the end, the decision as to whether that baby lives or dies, the child of BOTH THE MAN AND WOMAN, is solely in the woman’s hands. The father has no say. Where are his reproductive right?
